Begin with a visit to the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, where nearly 9,000 Allied prisoners who perished building the railway are respectfully remembered. Then, explore the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum filled with photos, artifacts, and detailed exhibits that tell the harrowing story behind the railway’s construction.

Experience a scenic train ride along part of the original Death Railway track, soaking in the landscape and reflecting on the past. At the disembarkation station, enjoy a sumptuous lunch before heading back to Bangkok for a late afternoon hotel drop-off.

Program and Itinerary Historical Day Tour to River Kwai

This is a sample itinerary to give you an overview of the day’s experience.

06:30 AM – Meet the group at River City Bangkok
07:00 AM – Depart for Kanchanaburi (approx. 2.5–3 hours drive)
10:00 AM – Arrive at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, the resting place of nearly 9,000 Allied POWs
11:00 AM – Visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre to learn about the history of the Death Railway
12:00 PM – Stop for a delicious Thai lunch at a local restaurant
01:00 PM – Visit the Bridge on the River Kwai and enjoy free time for photos and exploration
02:00 PM – Board a train and ride along a section of the original Death Railway, passing beautiful countryside and historical sites
03:00 PM – Rejoin the vehicle and begin the return journey to Bangkok
06:00–07:00 PM – Arrive back at starting point
